My life has always involved creativity. From my earliest years, the opportunity to explore and expand the boundaries and effects of color – the relationship of color in a diverse and complementary palette, the effect of changing light, the physical mark and thickness of the paint, and the response produced in the viewer from color - has always captivated my interest. The imaginative combination of color, texture, and contrast to create a beguiling and memorable image is my goal.
Although my life as an artist has been challenged with numerous interruptions, leading me onto diverse journeys with different interests, creativity has been my touchstone. Creativity imbues my life in every aspect. No matter what form it takes - painting, sculpture, photography, writing- ingeniously responding to every challenge of my life is my solution.
The common denominator in my paintings are my use of vivid and high contrast colors, rich (impasto) texture, and effect of light upon the objects. The thickly textured physical surface of palette knives and oils paint technique creating the painting surface create images of ever changing color and light. A number of paintings, including the Poppy series, are colors contrasted against a glimmering gold background. The gold changes in reaction of the changing light on the surface of the painting, displaying a changing image as the light changes.
Gardens are one of my favorite subjects. The variety of color, texture and shapes of plants and flowers are a wonderful vehicle for color. The impressionistic garden paintings, the stylized poppy paintings or the abstract florals all celebrate the abundance of garden energy.
I look forward to sharing more colorful creative expressions with you. As always, the more color, the more life!
